CAT Shelter After Disasters
Shelter and Construction Consultants facilitated a four day shelter practical workshop in July at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Machynlleth mid-Wales.
The course was forĀ Postgraduate students wishing to learn more about the issues surrounding shelter after disaster. Students of a variety of nationalities attended the course.
We were looking at the physical aspects of shelter and other issues such as dignity, vulnerability, income generation, gender and disability.
Ā The students successfully constructed shelters and provided a report to others on their course.
The experience provided an insight into the role of a shelter practitioner where it is important to work closely with communities to fully understand their needs and how best to provide technical support in shelter building activities.
